Eleven hammer throw victories, Canadian title, Commonwealth Games gold medal and North American/national record. An impressive list of career highlights for any track and field athlete.

For Camryn Rogers, it’s a sample of the Canadian’s 2026 achievements.

It was a banner season for the reigning Olympic and world champion, who was announced Tuesday by World Athletics as one of 10 women’s athlete of the year nominees, selected by an international panel of athletics experts.

A four-way vote, which closes Oct. 17 at 6 p.m. ET, will determine the final ranking. Three women’s finalists will be unveiled Nov. 10 and the winner announced Nov. 29 at the World Athletics Awards in Monaco.

Rogers, from Richmond, B.C., capped her season with her 11th win, throwing 77.09 metres at the Silesia Diamond League stop in Chorzow, Poland.

“This season has been amazing. I have had the best throw of my life, and to close the season with this throw is wonderful,” Rogers said on Aug. 23 in Poland.

“I will go home to [Richmond], have a staycation and relax and then start to get ready in Texas for the next three years, with world champs and [2028 Los Angeles] Olympics.”

The 27-year-old boasted the five best performances of any women’s hammer thrower this season: 79.36, 79.63, 80.03, 80.09 and 81.13. The 81.13 is a North America and Canadian record, surpassing Rogers’s previous 80.51 mark from September 2025.

She trails only world-record holder Anita Wlodarczyk of Poland, who threw 82.98 on Aug. 28, 2016.

Camryn Rogers breaks her own Commonwealth Games record to strike gold in hammer throw

Camryn Rogers of Richmond, B.C., threw 74.91 metres in her final attempt to set a new Commonwealth Games record and won the gold medal.

The Silesia victory followed a repeat gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland, where Rogers set the tone at a rain-soaked Scotstoun Stadium, opening the competition with a throw of 71.52 to take the early lead in Glasgow.

Gold was already secured before Rogers stepped into the circle for her final attempt. But she saved the best for last, breaking her own Games mark with a throw of 74.91.

Rogers’s furthest throw of the season came at her season-opening competition at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays on April 2 in Austin, Texas.

She won her first five events of the campaign and the final five. In between, there was a season-worst fourth place (76.50) at the USATF L.A. Grand Prix in Wilmington, Calif. — Rogers’s fifth straight Canadian title and sixth at the senior level — and a second-place showing at the Diamond League’s Prefontaine Classic.
