Canada’s Vucsics ‘proud’ of silver despite wet and rainy conditions
Noah Vucsics on battling the elements to win Commonwealth Games long jump silver
Noah Vucsics of Calgary, Alta., talks about upping his “compete” level to jump in heavy rain conditions in Glasgow.
Canada’s Noah Vucsics captured silver in the men’s long jump T20 final and told CBC Sports’ Marissa Papaconstantinou that he was proud of the result despite challenging conditions.
“It feels pretty good. The distance didn’t quite go to plan, jumping only 6.66m, but with the conditions, I did my best to compete with those guys, and thankfully got the silver,” said Vucsics.
Competing through the wet and rainy conditions, Vucsics said his mindset was simple: “I just got to compete hard. We’re all dealing with the same conditions when the rain was coming down.”
With the event making its Commonwealth Games debut, Vucsics highlighted the importance of the platform for athletes with intellectual impairments.
“It’s been pretty special,” said Vucsics. “When I first saw this event was going to be included at the Commonwealth Games, I thought, ‘This is a great opportunity — let’s take advantage of it.'”
And he certainly did, delivering a silver-medal performance on the big stage.
