CBC announced Thursday the launch of CBC Money, a new slate of original content coming next year that will focus on the daily cost-of-living news that matters to Canadians.

It will include a wide range of programming across news and entertainment, with new podcasts, video series and shows.

CBC Money will be headquartered in Calgary, led by nine journalists in a brand-new downtown studio to launch next year.

“Calgary as a city is so important to the economy of this country,” said Tracy Johnson, managing editor of CBC Calgary, speaking on CBC Radio’s Calgary Eyeopener.

Placing the focus in Calgary with a core team and reporters across the country will help broaden coverage of the country’s diverse economy, Brodie Fenlon, general manager and editor-in-chief of CBC News, said in a statement.

There will also be five business reporters hired in Vancouver, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Montreal and Halifax, and two producers out of Toronto.

“With CBC Money, we will move beyond market updates and boardroom chatter, delivering essential stories of money-planning strategies and financial resilience to help Canadians make more informed decisions,” Fenlon said.

CBC Radio’s Cost of Living host Paul Haavardsrud will also host a new video series that helps give Canadians practical tips to keep more money in their pockets.

“The cost of living is so high on people’s minds that we want to … find that intersection between all of the things that are happening in the economy and people’s lives and help everyone understand what decisions to make about their money,” Johnson said.

Canadians can expect to start seeing CBC Money content in the new year, with the new CBC News Network show likely about a year away, Johnson said.

She also expects the new downtown CBC Calgary location to be announced early in 2027. CBC Calgary will maintain its newsroom in the city’s Parkdale neighbourhood.

CBC Money programs will be available across TV, radio, audio and streaming, and on dedicated digital destinations on CBC.ca, the CBC News App and CBC Gem.

It will also include content from CBC’s slate of programs that focus on money matters, including Dragons’ Den, Go Public, Marketplace, the Mind Your Business newsletter as well as CBC Kids program Street Cents.
