Incumbent Philip Brown has conceded the Charlottetown mayoral race to Amir Zuccolo.

A total of seven candidates were in the running for mayor. Zuccolo leads the pack with more than 4,500 votes as of 9 p.m. That’s about 1,500 more votes than Brown.

Zuccolo succeeds Brown, who was first elected as mayor in 2018 and won two consecutive elections.

She will be the second woman to lead the capital city as mayor. Dorothy Corrigan held the position from 1969 to 1972.

Three of the city’s 10 positions on council were acclaimed, while the remaining seven wards are still waiting for votes to be counted.
