Provincial politics upstages municipal convention
All of this is happening as the annual Union of B.C. Municipalities convention comes to an end. Virtually every politician in the province had gathered at the Vancouver Convention Centre intending to have five days of public debates, resolution sessions, and schmooze-filled receptions.
Instead, the event turned into tense, closed-door meetings between parties and strategists, along with massive amounts of gossip, as delegates wrapped their heads around thoughts of a potential imminent election.
As a reporter, it’s been a fascinating reminder of how messy and human politics can be. For a voter, it might be confusing, entertaining, or enraging — but whatever the case, it looks likely they’ll have a chance to make their opinion heard in a few weeks.
