Mexican wildland firefighters arrive in B.C.
More than 100 wildfire fighters from Mexico arrived in Abbotsford, B.C., yesterday afternoon to aid in the wildfire fight.
B.C. Forests Minister Ravi Parmar welcomed the crews at the airport, describing them as “incredible heroes.”
He said they will head to the Pear Lake fire, part of a wildfire complex burning near Clinton.
Another 200 Mexican wildfire personnel are set to arrive later this week, Parmar said, and crews from Australia are also expected to come.
Julián Adem Díaz de León, the consul general of Mexico based in Vancouver, said the firefighters represent “the very best of Mexico” and added their work strengthens the friendship between the two countries.
