Canada’s DeBues-Stafford struggles to 14th in women’s 5,000-metre final
Two-time Olympian Gabriela DeBues-Stafford of Toronto had a disappointing 14th-place finish in the women’s 5,000-metre final, clocking a time of 15 minutes 09.66 seconds.
The Canadian started strong and sat just behind Kenya’s Rebecca Mwangi in second place early on, trailing by just 0.3 seconds at the 1,000m mark. But she began to lose steam and fell back to 12th place at 2,000m before dropping down to 16th by the midway point.
Australia took gold and silver, with Rose Davies (14:44.53) finishing just ahead of Jessica Hull (14:45.01). Scotland’s Megan Keith took bronze in 14:49.10.
