Mounties near the Alberta-British Columbia border have issued an Amber Alert for a six-year-old boy. RCMP say the boy was last seen across the border in Fort St. John at 9:30 a.m.

They say Lanakai Morrison was taken on Tuesday from the hamlet of Valhalla Centre, roughly 45 kilometres northwest of Grande Prairie. Fort St. John is about 130 kilometres northwest of the hamlet.

Police say Lanakai may be with his mother, 35-year-old Krista Morrison.

RCMP say 35-year-old Daniel Ludwig and four-year-old Karl Morrison may be travelling with them.

On Thursday afternoon, RCMP said they now suspect they are driving in a red, 2006 Ford F-350. The current licence plate is unknown.

An Amber Alert was sent on Thursday evening to people in the Yukon and Northwest Territories, warning they may be heading north.

RCMP said officers were previously looking for a black 2015 Toyota Tundra with Alberta licence plate CTN9517, but that vehicle has since been found.

Until Thursday evening, police also originally said the red Ford F-350 had the Alberta licence plate CXW8820.

Anyone who sees them is advised not to approach and to call 911 immediately.
