
The federal government posted a deficit of $370-million for the April-to-June period of its 2026-27 fiscal year.
In its monthly fiscal monitor report, the Finance Department says the result compared with a deficit of $6.28-billion for the same period a year earlier.
The deficit came as revenue totalled $132.64-billion for the three-month period, up from $120.84-billion in the same period last year.
Program expenses excluding net actuarial losses amounted to $117.16 billion, up from $112.34-billion a year ago.
Public debt charges totalled $14.61-billion for the period, up from $13.77-billion.
Net actuarial losses were $1.25-billion, up from $1.01-billion a year ago.
