A glacier lake has burst and is sending flood waters towards a community northeast of Pemberton, B.C., triggering an evacuation order.
The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District says the Place Glacier lake outburst is ongoing and hazardous debris flows are expected in Place Creek and downstream waterways.
An evacuation order is in effect for more than 20 properties in the Gates Lake and Poole Creek areas, about 150 kilometres north of Vancouver.
The district says the flows are expected to peak late Wednesday.
The Place Glacier lake previously burst in 2024, sending about 1.2 million cubic meters of water and sediment downstream and flooding properties, and the district says flows from the current outburst are expected to be comparable.
It says the outburst is expected to last one to two days, and experts will monitor whether any other emergency responses are required.
