Montreal police say seven members of the force are being fired following allegations of discriminatory and racist conduct that have dogged the force in recent months.

Chief Fady Dagher will hold a news conference at 4 p.m. to address what the force is calling administrative dismissals.

The news comes days after Dagher promised action following a series of scandals that led the police service to suspend at least six officers in recent months.

They include allegations of criminal misconduct and racism by some officers, including members of a patrol unit in a multicultural neighbourhood of Montreal that police dismantled in June.

Police also announced last week that an officer could face criminal charges after allegedly concealing evidence related to a situation involving domestic violence in 2025.

The seven people who are being dismissed also include personnel from a downtown station where two officers have been suspended in recent months for alleged discriminatory and derogatory acts.
