Quebec party leaders are facing off in the first major campaign debate.
Parti Québécois Leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, Coalition Avenir Québec Leader Christine Fréchette, Liberal Leader Charles Milliard, Conservative Leader Éric Duhaime and Québec solidaire’s Ruba Ghazal’s greeted their cheering supporters as they stepped off their buses ahead of their first head-to-head meeting.
The debate will focus on three main themes, the economy, taxes and public services, and the future of Quebec.
Leaders slowed down their announcements early in the week to prepare for the debate.

The Parti Québécois promised earlier today to balance the province’s budget by 2028-2029 as it became the final party to unveil its financial framework.
The plan includes $6.5-billion in new spending over the next five years, as well as reducing government spending by $6.6-billion.
A second leaders’ debate will take place Wednesday. Quebec voters go to the polls Oct. 5.
