A ground crew worker was reportedly struck by an aircraft that was backing up at Montreal’s International Airport.

He is now in a life-threatening condition at the hospital.

Emergency services were reportedly called to the scene around 7:30 p.m. Eastern.

Officers and crime scene investigators are on site to determine the causes of the accident.

The Montreal Police Service confirmed to The Canadian Press that the case will be transferred to the Commission on Standards, Equity, Health, and Safety at Work, as it is a workplace accident.

Editor’s note: A previous version of this story incorrectly identified a worker who was struck by a plane in a collision at Montreal’s International Airport as an air traffic controller. The employee injured in the collision was a ground crew worker.
