A man in his 60s appears to have taken a Montreal police cruiser for a joyride on Thursday evening.
Police say the man allegedly stole the SUV during a police operation in an area just to the east of downtown Montreal.
Police tracked him down in the Montérégie area about 30 minutes later.
Police have not confirmed whether the man was connected to the operation or was simply a passerby.
Police say the man crashed the vehicle into a structure on a residential property in the municipality of Verchères, about 40 kilometres east of Montreal, around 9:20 p.m.
Officers arrested the suspect and took him to hospital as a precautionary measure.
